The City of Vaughan is hiring for the 2022 municipal election. You can earn anywhere between $140 and $342. You can apply online until Tuesday, Oct. 11.

What’s Required

To be eligible to work on voting day, Monday, Oct. 24, potential candidates must be at least 18 years of age, legally eligible to work in Canada, and have received a full series of the COVID-19 vaccine in accordance with the City of Vaughan’s COVID-19 vaccination policy.

Training will have a mandatory online component as well as job-specific in-person training, which will take place at Vaughan City Hall prior to voting day. Pay is dependent on completing both required training and duties on voting day.

2022 Municipal Election Positions

The MDRO is responsible for managing a large voting place with four or more staff and ensuring voting is conducted in accordance with the election procedures.

Duties:

Tabular Deputy Returning Officer (TDRO)

The TDRO is responsible for operating and supervising the vote tabulator in a voting page.

Duties:

 

Pay: $306

Deputy Returning Officer (DRO)

The Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) processes electors, revises their information and issues ballots using forms and lists in a computer equipped with election software. When assigned to a single-poll voting place, the DRO shall also be responsible for managing the site.

Customer Service Officer (CSO)

The Customer Service Officer (CSO) welcomes voters into the voting place and provides direction to them while they are present to vote. The CSO will also be responsible for sanitizing ballot marking pens and other shared consumables throughout the day.

Standby Officer

Standby Officers are trained as DRO/TDRO/CSO and attend the Ward Centre at the start of voting day. Standby Officers are employed to fill vacancies where hired staff assigned to voting locations quit or fall ill before assuming their duties. Standby Officers who are assigned to a voting location to fill a vacancy will be paid the full daily rate for DRO/TDRO/CSO.
