Most wonderful time of the year: Full list of school PA days, holidays in York Region for 2022-23

It's that time of year again -- some say the most wonderful time of year -- when kids from across the region excitedly, nervously or a little mix both head off to school.

Some hop and skip and some drag their feet and thier backpacks behind them.

But not so fast.

This year, school starts Wednesday Sept. 7 for most schools (not to be confused with the adage: school starts Tuesday after Labour Day).

Except for early-start and balanced schools, classes start for students in York District School Board and York Catholic District School Board Sept. 7.

Early start schools -- Sutton District and Keswick high schools in Georgina, Markville Secondary School in Markham and Maple High School in Vaughan -- start Aug. 29.

Balanced schools -- Bill Crothers Secondary School in Markham -- started Aug. 17. Bill Crothers also has its own holiday and PA Day schedule.

Meanwhile, French public and French Catholic school boards, Conseil Scolaire Viamonde and Conseil Scolaire Catholique MonAvenir, start Sept. 6.

The last day of classes for elementary school students is June 30. Secondary school students get a head start on the summer holiday with the last day of school June 29.

We’ve compiled a full list of Professional Activity Days (PA Days) and holidays to help you make daycare arrangements, schedule appointments or plan family holidays. Many municipalities offer PA Day camps for students.

Here are key dates for the 2022-23 school year for all students across York Region:

Statutory Holidays (schools closed):

• Feb. 20, 2023 -- Family Day;
• April 7, 2023 -- Good Friday;
