The election season often offers a variety of unique employment opportunities for people to participate in the election process. But it is a bit different this time for the City of Richmond Hill.

As the October election still months away, the city is able to staff the elections using the election officials who worked in the January 2022 byelection. No additional staff are required at this time.

The city held the byelection on Jan. 24, 2022 to elect its new mayor in the middle of the 2018-2022 term after longtime mayor Dave Barrow announced his retirement in September 2021.

There were nine candidates, including four sitting council members, vying for the mayoral seat in the race. David West, former Ward 4 councillor, eventually defeated his competitors with a total 13,053 votes (33.55 per cent).

However, the city is keeping a wait-list in case the needs change. Interested applicants who can work all three days of in-person voting can send their resume to electionworker@richmondhill.ca.
