Here are some issues and events going on in Aurora you may want to take note of:
- Do you want to help build a more bicycle-, wheelchair- and walk-friendly Aurora? The town is looking for residents’ input as it develops its Active Transportation Master Plan, scheduled to be completed early next year. The town has hired consultant WSP Canada Inc. to develop the project. It plans to build upon the town’s existing trails and active transportation networks, such as bike lanes and sidewalks, that connect to all neighbourhoods within the Aurora area and create opportunities for residents to engage in active transportation. The town is collaborating with its advisory committees, York Region, local businesses, community members and other stakeholders to ensure community values are reflected in the plan and that it is widely supported as it heads toward implementation. Take the survey at https://engageaurora.ca/atmp.
- The town has released its draft official plan after two years of public consultation. The plan provides a revised vision for town planning over the next 30 years. Some of the key changes and enhancements being proposed include policies for climate change resilience and natural heritage protection, cultural heritage preservation, active transportation and the updated Promenade/Major Transit Station Area Secondary Plan. Visit engageaurora.ca for more information and to provide feedback.
- The town’s fall program guide will be available for online viewing beginning Aug. 9. Registration begins Aug. 15. The guide will no longer be delivered to households. For more information, visit aurora.ca/recguide.
- There’s still time to catch concerts at the Town Park on Wednesday evenings until the end of August. For more information, visit aurora.ca/summerconcerts.
- Check out the Watercolour My Way: Transparent and Vibrant art collection by Nancy Newman in Aurora’s Skylight Gallery on the third floor of the town hall. The show includes a collection of floral, landscape and still-life paintings. View in person or online at https://www.aurora.ca/en/recreation-arts-and-culture/skylight-gallery.aspx
- This sounds like a lip-smacking good event. Aurora’s Ribfest runs Aug. 26 to 28 at Machell Park. There will also be roasted yams, corn on the cob, beavertails and live entertainment. For more information, visit aurora.ca/ribfest.
