The Oriole Trail Bridge and Boardwalk in Holland Landing has officially opened.

The 306-metre wooden boardwalk, running between Oriole Drive and Doane Road, connects residents in west Holland Landing to the Holland Landing Community Centre and Anchor Park, which are located across the bridge in east Holland Landing.

The Oriole Trail Bridge project includes two prefabricated steel pedestrian bridges that cross the Holland River and a wooden boardwalk that crosses over provincially significant wetlands.

“This project is something we’ve needed in our community for many years,” Mayor Virginia Hackson said. “Giving residents access to our parks, trails, community centres and libraries are important and this key connection will provide that access for Holland Landing residents.”

This capital project was approved during the 2018 business plan and budget. Construction took place over eight months and cost $1.5 million to build. This project was funded by development charges and the town received $575,000 from the Regional Municipality of York’s pedestrian cycling master plan.
