Regulars Bar in Toronto shared news of its closure with regulars on social media recently.

The property at 668 King St W. has been acquired by Metrolinx for the future site of King and Bathurst subway station as part of the Ontario Line.

In the heart of Toronto’s Fashion District, where almost 8,700 households currently don’t own a car, the station at King and Bathurst will offer vital connections between the Ontario Line and the popular 504 King route and the 511 Bathurst route, Metrolinx stated on its website.

Announced by the Ontario province in 2019, the proposed Ontario Line is one of four priority transit projects Metrolinx is leading for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), according to Metrolinx's website. The line will be the largest single expansion in Toronto’s subway history, helping to ease congestion on existing transit lines throughout the city and bring transit to underserviced neighbourhoods.

A spokesperson from Metrolinx confirmed in an email that the company has been in touch with the property owner for the change in ownership.

"We understand that moving can be a challenge and we are committed to working with them every step along the way in this process," the spokesperson added.

In an Instagram post, Regulars thanked everyone who have been along for the ride for the past four years.

"As we close the doors to Regulars, we want to remind you that without you, it was simply a building, the true essence of Regulars is in each and everyone of you."

In fine print at the end, the post stated, "P.S. When one door closes, another opens..."
