A fire that caused billowing black smoke forced the evacuation of the Promenade Mall in Thornhill Thursday, Aug. 4.

York Regional Police along with Vaughan Fire responded around 10:30 a.m. and remain on scene at the Promenade Circle and Centre Street location.

The force said the mall will remain closed for the rest of the day and are asking people to avoid the area due to the smoke.

A video of the smoke billowing out from one of the entrances was posted to Twitter showing fire trucks arriving on scene this morning.
