A fire at the water park area of Canada’s Wonderland late Sunday likely started by a firework during an evening show, York Regional Police (YRP) officers say.
Vaughan firefighters and YRP personnel were called to the attraction after the fire broke out at around 10:45 p.m.
A YRP spokesperson said it’s believed the fire started in the area where a shed and a pumphouse was and the flames spread to a water slide.
A spokesperson for Canada’s Wonderland said the Splash Works area closed at 6 p.m. so there weren’t any visitors in the immediate area. However, some staff were asked to leave.
The spokesperson said Splash Works would be closed to patrons on Monday.
There were no reported injuries as of Monday morning.
It wasn’t clear how the fire started or where exactly it began.
Investigators with Ontario’s Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) were at the park surveying the damage on Monday as part of a probe into the circumstances surrounding the fire.
A photo posted on the OFM Twitter account showed heavy damage to a water slide.
