Drivers, take note of the new speed limit in the Willmott neighbourhood.

As part of a one-year pilot program, first announced in April, the Town of Milton has reduced the speed limit in the area -- bordered by Derry Road, Louis St. Laurent Avenue, Regional Road 25 and Bronte Street South -- from 50 km/h to 40 km/h.

In addition, there will be a reduced speed limit of 30 km/h -- when the speed sign flashes -- on Leger Way in the area of Viola Desmond Public School starting in August.

The traffic calming measures are designed to reduce speed and traffic volume -- and to improve neighbourhood safety, the town says. Studies will be conducted during and after the pilot to measure results and develop long-term recommendations, according to the town.

Mayor Gord Krantz said in a recent news release that the pilot projects “will make tangible improvements in the safety of our communities.”

“If we all move together, we can keep Milton’s roads safe for everyone,” he said.
