The number of people working in the Caledon mayor and council office is set to double this fall.

There are currently three full-time staff in the office whose role is to provide administrative, community and intergovernmental support for the mayor and eight council members.

Caledon council approved an additional three full-time staff during a July 19 meeting. The change will take place in September, just ahead of the municipal election.

Catherine Monast, senior communications officer with the town, said the request for new staffing levels considers the new ward boundary structure for the town, changes to the regional council composition (Caledon went from five representatives at the regional council to three), ward boundary changes and the expected growth and development, which “will have a tremendous impact on the workload,” she explained.

The change comes with an estimated budget of $99,750 funded from the tax-funded operating contingency reserve in 2022.

As well, moving forward, there will be a tax impact of $258,850 added to the 2023 budget.
