City of Vaughan seeking up to 10 Black citizens to join special advisory committee tackling anti-Black racism

Black citizens interested in combatting anti-Black racism can join the city's efforts

The City of Vaughan is looking to recruit up to 10 citizens for its new Anti-Black Racism Special Advisory Committee.

On April 27, 2022, during a city council meeting, the city’s first diversity, equity and inclusion strategy and multi-year action plan was approved. The special advisory committee is part of an initiative to combat racism and discrimination to better serve Black communities residing in Vaughan.

The committee’s mandate is to:

• Facilitate community connections
• Advise and guide the community engagement process
• Provide feedback on the reports in each phase of the project
• Provide feedback on recommendations and action plan

 

The city is now looking for up to 10 Black citizens to serve on the committee for about 15 months, beginning September 2022. The time commitment will be five to 15 hours per month. An honorarium will be provided to compensate for their time and effort.

To apply, citizens can complete the online Addressing Anti-Black Racism Special Advisory Committee application form available at Vaughan.ca/DEI.

Applications will be accepted until Friday, Aug. 5, 2022. Successful candidates will be notified by the end of August.
