Water mains are going to be replaced in Sharon and Holland Landing with a little help from the provincial government. The Town of East Gwillimbury authorized a transfer payment agreement with the Province of Ontario for $3.67 million in grant funding that will contribute toward the $5-million cost of replacing water mains in Holland Landing and Sharon.

Funding for this project was secured through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP).

“Infrastructure funding from the federal and provincial government is critical for municipalities,” said East Gwillimbury Mayor Virginia Hackson. “We applaud the federal and provincial governments for the ICIP funding, which will significantly contribute to the cost of much-needed water main replacement in two EG communities.”

Through the project, 912 metres of water main pipe along with valves, service connections and fire hydrants will be replaced along Yonge Street in Holland Landing. The project will also contribute to the Holland Landing-Yonge Street Revitalization project. In Sharon, valves, service connections, fire hydrants and 1186 metres of water main pipe will be replaced along Morton Avenue, Mount Albert Road, Charles Street, Howard Avenue and William Street.

The project is expected to begin this year with design and survey work. Consultation with the public will be undertaken as part of the engineering design process and is anticipated to be completed in 2023. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2024 and will be completed by 2027.
