Road work and bike lane installation is getting underway on Bayview Avenue and Prospect Street, and drivers can expect some lane closures.

Construction is to begin July 19 and end at the end of July, if no weather delays occur. The work will extend from Mulock Drive to Gorham Street and will include replacing asphalt to improve the ride quality and dedicated bike lanes.

“We understand road construction creates challenges for the community, and we are working to deliver this project with minimal disruption,” a York Region notice said.

Cycling activists pushed for bike lanes in the area when York Region did resurface work last year, something York Region eventually moved ahead with in planning more road work there this year.

“There are no additional construction costs to the region to bring the road up to the high standards outlined in the original agreement with the contractor."

Road work will occur weekdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Night work at the Bayview and Mulock intersection will also be required, from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. July 19 and 20.

The municipality said temporary closures of lanes and entrances will be required throughout the construction period.
