The Nobleton Lions outdoor pool won’t be opening as scheduled on July 4.

King Township said it won’t be opening the pool because of staff shortages. The township hasn’t been able to hire enough certified aquatic staff to safely operate the pool for the summer season.

Included in the cancellations are swimming lessons and public swims. Participants who registered for the aquatic programs have been contacted and refunds issued.

The township is also working to resolve technical issues at the pool.

The Nobleton Lions outdoor pool is normally open each year from July to August, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the pool was closed in the summers of 2020 and 2021.

King has three outdoor splash pads in Tasca Park in Nobleton, Memorial Park in King City and Hickstead Memorial Park in Schomberg.

“A severe shortage of qualified aquatic staff is affecting municipalities across Canada. The result is that some pools are opening at reduced capacity and others can’t open at all. The Township of King is, unfortunately, in that same predicament,” said Chris Fasciano, director of community services.
