LOCATION:

The new nature reserve is located between Metro Road to the north, Woodbine Avenue to the east, Boyers Road to the south and The Queensway North and Varney Road to the west.

There is also a parcel of land bound by Deer Park Drive to the north, Varney Road to the east, Boyers Road to the south and Metro Road North to the west.

JUST THE FACTS:

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority officially took ownership of the 890-acre property, which includes the former Maple Lake Estate Lands and North Gwillimbury Forest, in the spring;

The property is fenced and no trespassing signs are posted along the boundaries. The LSRCA is asking the public to stay off the property as the conservation authority takes an inventory of the natural features;

The LSRCA is in the process of creating a management plan for the area that includes establishing safe access, protecting sensitive ecological species and planning for the property’s long-term future;

In the interim, the property will be temporarily called the Lake Simcoe Conservation Preserve until a permanent name is chosen;
