Vaughan’s new community center and library is a step closer to reality after official construction begins.
Mayor Vaughan Maurizio Bevilacqua, local councilors and library officials gathered on Wednesday at the new Carville Community Center, Library and Park grounds for a groundbreaking ceremony.
The new urban facilities will be located in the areas of Thomas Cook Avenue and Valley Vista Drive.
“It will connect people, provide excellent programs and services, and improve the overall quality of life,” the mayor said in a statement. “The facility will reflect the needs of the community, as many residents have provided their views throughout the development process.”
According to the city of Vaughn, it has rooftop solar panels and geothermal heating and cooling technology.
Margie Singleton, CEO of Vaughan Public Libraries, described the exercise of designing a modern branch as “exciting.”
A park including splash pads, skate trails, both tennis and basketball courts will also be built on the premises. This includes gender-independent washrooms and changing facilities.
The project website states that it will be completed in 2024.
