Help paint Georgina beautiful this summer with the town’s community art project.
Together with the Georgina Centre for Arts and Culture, the town’s economic development and tourism department hosts the lighthouse decorating project.
Residents age five and older are invited to paint or decorate replicas of the Jackson’s Point Lighthouse, built in 2019. The lighthouse stands about nine metres above Lake Simcoe and is visible up to about five nautical miles.
The Georgina Centre for Arts and Culture is hosting six free painting workshops where residents will receive their lighthouse, paint supplies and artistic guidance.
Once completed, 100 replica lighthouses will be on display in Georgina’s four historic downtown areas -- Uptown Keswick, Jackson’s Point, downtown Sutton and Pefferlaw.
Lighthouse painting workshop are taking place June 11, 12 and 19, with sessions at 10 a.m. and noon.
Participants will not leave the workshop with their decorated lighthouse, as it will be part of the town’s summer beautification project. Once the community art project is over, residents will have an opportunity to collect and keep their lighthouse.
Space is limited and registration is required.
