St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic High School (CHS) in Aurora will implement a High Performer Athlete (HPA) program starting in 2023.

The Board of Trustees of the York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) unanimously passed the motion at its regular board meeting held May 31.

The program will follow the model currently used at Holy Cross Catholic Academy in Woodbridge, which allows HPA students to earn credits for their training and to have a modified school schedule to facilitate before or after school training schedules.

Trustees said St. Maximilian Kolbe CHS was chosen since its location is ideal to serve the students in the northern areas of the board.

The school has an artificial turf field and track built and operated in partnership with the Town of Aurora and also hosts half of the elementary track and field meets for the board.

Board chair Elizabeth Crowe thanked the schools administration and staff for "embracing the idea and making it a reality."
