King is prospering despite the impacts the COVID-19 pandemic has had.

That’s what Mayor Steve Pellegrini told the crowd at the Mayor’s Annual Luncheon on May 25 during his speech.

The annual event is hosted by the King Chamber of Commerce.

King has stayed on track with its promises of the township’s 2019-2022 corporate strategic plan, Pellegrini said.

Despite sporadic lockdowns due to the pandemic, the township continued to deliver its essential services, he added.

Pellegrini highlighted the success of the vaccination clinic at the Trisan Centre in the summer of 2021, which was a partnership between the township, the medical community and local businesses. The clinic was able to facilitate 77,000 vaccine doses being administered.

The township offered support during the pandemic through its economic development office to local businesses through the patio program and the #ShopKING campaign.

During the pandemic, King opened a new King City branch of the King Township Public Library and King City Seniors’ Centre in 2021.

In 2022, King broke ground on the township-wide recreation centre, Pellegrini said.

The township is ahead on its 10-year road improvement plan, he said.

“During the pandemic, King continued to deliver essential services, meeting the goals of our corporate strategic plan and partnering in projects such as new EV charging stations, a new township-wide recreation centre and pop-up patios, as well as making improvements to local treasures, such as the Schomberg Community Hall and Tasca Park,” Pellegrini said.
