The Town of Aurora is asking residents to obey all signs and closures for their own safety.

On May 21, a storm blew through southern Ontario, including Aurora, and caused significant damage to hydro poles, parks, trails, and public and private property.

Staff are working to clean up the debris and repair the damage caused by the storm, the town said in a media release.

Several parks and trails have been deemed unsafe and are currently closed as a result of the storm. Barricades and signage have been placed throughout the parks and trails affected.

“For your safety, we ask that everyone obey the signs and do not use the trails until we can make them safe again,” the media release said.

Town staff are assessing the damage, and will be prioritizing public safety as well as road and sidewalk safety. If residents have a downed boulevard tree or concerns with a town-owned tree, please email Access Aurora at info@aurora.ca.

Residents are responsible for trees on their property, and are asked to contact a private contractor to assist in clearing and removal. Small branches can be bundled for yard waste collection this week. The town is asking residents to refer to their waste management guide for set guidelines.
