Newmarket residents can look forward to a summer full of activities as the town releases its summer programming guide.

The guide outlines activities for all ages in the summer ahead, from preschool to older adults. Registration opens up for residents May 18 and non-residents May 25.

Mayor John Taylor said there is a new sense of optimism heading into this summer, with many events back for the first since 2019, before the pandemic began.

“Activities outside school and work are beneficial to people of all ages,” Taylor said in the guide. “It’s an opportunity to reconnect with friends and neighbours, build relationships with people with similar interests and discover hobbies you enjoy.”

The programming ranges from arts to cooking to sports, spread across the town’s facilities. Programs include preschool, children, youth, special needs adults and older adults. Many of the programs require registration, but drop-in programs are also available.

Swimming is also on offer, with dozens of different lessons and a swimming leadership pathway to help with instructor and lifeguard certifications.

Residents can begin registering online May 18 at play.newmarket.ca. You will need a personal login and credit card at the ready to register. Alternatively, you can visit a town customer service kiosk during business hours to register in person, though the town said that reduces your chances of getting into specific programs as they fill up quickly. For in-person registration, the town said to drop off a completed form, downloadable at play.newmarket.ca.

You can register for library programs at newmarketpl.ca or by calling 905-953-5110 ext. 4770 for adult programs or ext. 5105 for children’s programs.

“Come join us at our many summer events as we reunite as a community,” Taylor said. “Let’s make this summer well beyond the ordinary!”
