Starting with the summer session, Georgina will be using Lifesaving Society’s Swim for Life program instead of the Canadian Red Cross Learn to Swim program.

Recently, the Canadian Red Cross announced it will discontinue its Learn to Swim and lifeguarding program across the country. Instead, the national organization is shifting its focus to humanitarian demands, disaster and pandemic response, opioid harm reduction and caregiving for seniors.

The town has partnered with the Lifesaving Society, an organization passionate about reducing instances of drowning and water-related injuries.

Residents can continue to expect the same quality of instruction and same value for lessons.

Summer swim sessions start July 4. Registration for Georgina residents for swim lessons opens June 7 at 8:30 a.m. Registration for non-residents opens June 14.

The town’s aquatics team is hosting assessment sessions for parents to find out where their child should be placed in future lessons. Pre-registration is required.

Assessment dates:

May 17 and 19, 5 to 7 p.m.;

May 21 and 22, 10 a.m. to noon;

May 31 and June 2, 5 to 7 p.m.
