Firefighters rescued two dogs from a house fire in Newmarket the night of May 8.
Central York Fire Services responded to the call on Harrison Drive, in the area of London Road, around 10:18 p.m.
Fire crews were met with thick black smoke coming from the front door.
The family had safely evacuated to their front lawn and called 911.
Two dogs were saved and are now safely back with their owners, fire officials said.
The fire was under control within less than an hour on the scene, and crews stayed on scene to help the family gather belongings from the home.
CYFS said the fire originated in the basement when an overheated sump pump motor caught fire and spread throughout one section of the basement.
There's no word on the estimated financial damages, but the home is uninhabitable due to heavy smoke damage.
The family of three will not be able to return home until repairs are completed.
Harrison Drive, from London Road to Cherrywood Drive, was closed for approximately three hours.
