After more than two years of being closed due to COVID-19, the Markham Museum will fully reopen to the public on Wednesday, May 4.

Just in time for summer, the museum will be offering a variety of in-person camp programs, with registration opening on April 29 at 9 a.m. To register for programs, visit markham.ca/MuseumCamps.

"I am pleased that Markham Museum can welcome back visitors," said Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. "The Markham Museum is a well-respected and nationally recognized museum that continues to play an important role in shaping and championing Markham's rich history. I hope you, your family, and friends will have the opportunity to safely visit and enjoy the excellent programs and events Markham Museum has to offer."

Some of the summer camp programs available include:

Science Magic;
Future Engineers;
Superhero Science;
Pottery Camp.

The museum will also be available for rentals to the public for occasions that include weddings, family events and public gatherings.

In advance of its reopening on May 4, the museum has implemented a number of health and safety measures, including touchless washroom facilities and increased sanitation stations in the galleries and in locations where there are hands-on activities, as well as the regular sanitation of gallery interactives.

Following the provincial guidelines on face masks, masks are not required at the museum; however, following public health guidelines is strongly encouraged, and those who wish to wear a mask may continue to do so.

"Museums play an important role in our communities, helping build a sense of collective belonging, while providing a way to learn and experience our history," said Chris Rickett, director of economic growth, culture and entrepreneurship for the City of Markham. "Our team at the Markham Museum is looking forward to welcoming everyone back so that we can continue to build Markham stories together."

"Museum staff are excited to welcome visitors back!" said Cathy Molloy, manager of Markham Museum. "We are looking forward to opening our galleries, providing site tours, and hosting private and public events. We have missed you!"

Due to the closure of Markham Museum during the pandemic, museum memberships have been extended until May 4, 2023. If you have any questions about your membership, please contact the museum.
