Ontario Fire Marshal's Office investigates fatal fire in Vaughan

The cause of a fatal fire in Vaughan in the afternoon of April 24 is under investigation.
Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report of fire and smoke in a residence at 8 Adrianno Cres. around 3:40 p.m. April 24.
Firefighters were met with heavy smoke and flames upon their arrival, and immediately began to control the fire and initiate a search.
A spokesperson for the City of Vaughan confirmed firefighters located and removed one man through a first-floor window.
The elderly man was transported to Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital without vital signs and pronounced dead upon arrival.
No other people were located in the residence and the fire was quickly brought under control.
The Office of the Fire Marshal has been notified and VFRS is conducting its After the Heat Program in the neighbourhood April 25.
Although the cause of the fire is under investigation, VFRS would like to remind the community of the importance of properly maintained smoke alarms.
The City of Vaughan offered its condolences to the victim's family and friends.
