If you notice helicopters flying around East Gwillimbury the town is starting its annual mosquito control program.
Starting April 19, the program applies biological larvicide to standing water mosquito habitats within the town.
During the period residents might notice helicopters flying low and applying larvicide product to standing water and wooded areas.
Much of East Gwillimbury is in low-lying terrain that creates good mosquito breeding sites each spring.
During the month of April, a non-chemical substance is applied to the main breeding sites of the Spring Aedes species of mosquitoes across East Gwillimbury. The breeding sites are wet larval habitats where mosquito larvae develop prior to becoming flying, biting adult mosquitoes.
