Construction is getting underway today for improvements to Bathurst Street expected to be completed by late fall.
The York Region project running from Mulock Drive to Henderson Drive in Aurora includes resurfacing, line painting and intersection improvements. Deputy Mayor Tom Vegh said in a Facebook post the project would commence on April 19.
The region said it would maintain access to homes and businesses. However, lanes are set to be reduced between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. throughout the project.
“We understand road construction creates challenges for the community and we are working to deliver this project with minimal disruption. Thank you for your patience during the construction period,” the region said.
The region will make intersection improvements at St. John’s Sideroad, Wellington Street and Kennedy Street West. These will include upgraded traffic signal controls, audio pedestrian signals and tactical walking surface indicators. The region said these improvements will bring the intersections into compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
The road improvements will also include curb and catch basin repairs and guardrail replacements.
Vegh said those with questions could contact the director of capital planning and delivery Salim Alibhai at 1-877-464-9675 ext. 75229 or salim.alibhai@york.ca or senior project manager Richard So at 1-877-464-9675 ext. 75263 or richard.so@york.ca.
