Local families in the growing area of Kleinburg will have a new elementary school and child care centre to call their own after the province gave the go-ahead, and $21 million, to York Region District School Board to tender construction.

“I am proud to announce additional funding to get the Kleinburg-Nashville Elementary School built for local families in Vaughan,” said King-Vaughan MPP and Minister of Education Stephen Lecce.

“The $21-million investment will ensure a state-of-the-art school with modern ventilation, technology, internet connectivity, and affordable child care is available for local families that need it most."

The investment includes additional funding of $6.2 million that'll see the creation of 638 student spaces, 39 licensed child-care spaces and two child-care rooms.

"I want to recognize the parents in the community for their relentless advocacy, and the York Region District School Board for making school expansion in Kleinburg a priority for local families, because together we are getting this done," Lecce said.

The Ontario government has allocated more than $600 million to support ventilation improvements in schools across Ontario as part of its plans for a safer return to school.

The York Region District School Board received $17.5 million for ventilation improvements and has 1313 HEPA filter units in place.
