The Maple Library and Community Centre will reopen on Tuesday, April 26 with an in-person celebration event beginning at 9 a.m.

Vaughan's largest community centre, located at 10190 Keele St., has been closed since June for extensive renovations to the aging facility, including improved space layouts and functionality, sustainability upgrades, accessibility enhancements and improvements in energy utilization.

Members of the public can tour the reinvigorated and redeveloped facility that features updated private reading and study spaces, free Wi-Fi, a new outdoor reading garden and a new barrier-free staff washroom in the library.

Renovations to the community centre included recreation activity spaces with accessible millwork, a kitchenette, a new barrier-free public washroom, updated fitness centre change rooms with automatic door openers and accessible activity rooms.

The in-person event on April 26 begins at 9 a.m. and will include refreshments, on-site activities and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, Ward 1 Coun. Marilyn Iafrate, Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) board chair Rose Savage and representatives from the provincial and federal governments are also scheduled to speak at the event.

Those planning to attend are being reminded that COVID-19 protocols are in effect when entering the facility, including a safety screening.
