Who made the Ontario Sunshine list: York Region school boards

More than 2,300 York Catholic, 4,700 public school board employees earned more than $100K in 2021

In 2021, there were 2,306 York Catholic school board employees listed on the province’s annual public sector salary disclosure list, known as the Sunshine List.

In the public board, there were 4,720 earning $100,000 or more in 2021.

Teachers in both boards make up the bulk of “sunshine” employees -- about 53 per cent are elementary school teachers and about 35 per cent are secondary school teachers.

In both school boards, there was an increase in the number of employees, mostly teachers, on the list compared to 2020 -- an 89 per cent increase in the Catholic board and a 97 per cent increase in the public.

There are five employees in the public school board earning north of $200,000, compared to one in the Catholic board.

The top five earners in the public school board include (excluding taxable benefits):

$281,686 -- Director of Education, Mary Sirisko;

$247,861 -- Assistant Deputy Minister, Clayton La Touche;

$230,618 -- Associate Director of Education Schools and Programs, Steven Reid;

$214,324 -- Associate Director of Education, CFO, Vidyia Maharaj; and

$213,116 -- Associate Director of Education, Equitable Outcomes and Schools, Cecil Roach.

The top five earners in the Catholic board include (excluding taxable benefits):

$202,883 -- Director of Education, Robert Hofstatter;

$184,999 -- Superintendent Human Resource, Internal Education, Michael Gray;

$181,517 -- Elementary teacher, Nadia De Zorzi;

$175,657 -- Senior Manager Budget, Payroll and Benefits, Lucie Giambattista; and

$174,334 -- Co-ordinating Planning and Operations Manager, Thomas Pechkovsky.
