The annual Ontario public salary disclosure list -- the “Sunshine List” -- catalogues each public employee earning $100,000 or more.

In Vaughan, 636 employees earned $100,000 or more, excluding any taxable benefits paid. That’s about a six per cent increase compared to 2020 numbers.

Of the town’s Sunshine List employees, 200 are in the fire department, including 185 firefighters.

Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua earned $194,119.58, including about $59,600 from York Region. That amounts to about $0.60 per Vaughan resident -- the lowest per resident ratio in York Region.

His salary does not include about $15,300 in benefits.

Along with Bevilacqua, Vaughan’s three regional councillors were also listed on the provincial public salary disclosure list: regional councillors Mario Ferri earning $151,918; and Linda Jackson-Campese and Gino Rosati earning $143,527 (excluding benefits).

There are seven Vaughan employees earning more than $200,000 -- tied for second highest in the region with Markham, after 10 employees in Richmond Hill.
