As the fickle spring weather continues to tease us, some solid fun is expected to return to Richmond Hill soon.

City staff are currently planning for some of the well-loved community events, including Ribfest, Canada Day and Concerts in the Park.

It will mark a return to in-person events in Richmond Hill following the lifting of COVID-19-related public health restrictions.

Ribfest is usually celebrated in late July, and Concerts in the Park are usually held from July to September. Details on this year’s events are not yet available.

The city had to cancel all city- and council-member-led summer festivals and events at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 to help curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Richmond Hill previously turned to virtual celebrations for events like Canada Day or a drive-thru format for activities such as Ribfest in order to provide an opportunity for the community to participate during the pandemic.

The popular summer events collectively draw close to 50,000 people to Richmond Hill every year, according to the city.
