Eligible York Region residents wishing to receive a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccination can begin making appointments as of Thursday morning.

Following on the heels of the province's announcement this week that second booster doses will be made available to individuals aged 60 and older as of April 7, the local public health unit confirmed tonight the boosters will be available by appointment only as of 8 a.m. tomorrow at york.ca/covid19vaccine, according to regional spokesperson Patrick Casey.

The fourth dose vaccinations will also be available to First Nation, Inuit and Metis individuals and their non-Indigenous household members aged 18, he added.

In Newmarket, the current vaccination clinic is at the Regional Municipality of York building at 17150 Yonge St.

Appointments will also be available to those who are eligible through the provincial vaccine portal, Indigenous-led vaccination clinics and some pharmacies.

The province is recommending an interval of at least five months, or 140 days, or at a minimum interval of at least three months, 84 days, after receipt of a third dose for individuals 60 years of age or older, Casey said.

"York Region is working to update communications and york.ca related to fourth dose boosters for 60-plus," Casey said.

Access York phone support will be available at 1-877-464-9675 beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 7 for booking appointment, he added.

Fourth doses are already available to long-term care and retirement home residents and immunocompromised people in Ontario.
