Looking for work? Looking for someone to work for you?
A new employment centre in Newmarket can help.
ACCES Employment was to open last year but the pandemic delayed its official opening, which is now April 4.
The centre began providing online services March 19, but jobseekers can now come to the office without an appointment, speak with an employment counsellor and receive employment services.
ACCES is a non-profit organization that works across the Greater Toronto Area and nationally to place qualified candidates with employers.
Each year, it serves more than 35,000 jobseekers at seven locations in the GTA.
“We are so excited to be expanding our services in York Region and to support the town of Newmarket's workplace diversity, equity and inclusion plan,” Suzana Belan, director of services and community engagement, said.
“At ACCES, we assist diverse job seekers who are facing barriers to employment, to integrate into the job market. We achieve this by providing employment services, linking employers to skilled people, and building strong networks in collaboration with community partners. ACCES wants to help build success for all people in York Region.”
ACCES offers a range of free-of-charge recruitment services including connections to new and diverse talent, pre-screened candidates, job fairs and recruitment events, promotion of job postings, networking and mentoring events, training incentives for employers that qualify and ongoing support during the onboarding process
ACCES also offers support with submissions for Canada-Ontario Job Grant and provides various fee-for-service training options.
Employers must register with ACCES, which also makes them eligible for Employment Ontario hiring and training subsidies.
ACCES is a welcome addition to Newmarket and York Region, Mayor John Taylor said.
“The town of Newmarket has a dynamic and diverse population and the (town) is proud to support agencies and organizations, such as ACCES Employment, who provide opportunities for individuals to improve their lives through skills, education, and training,” he said.
“A skilled, educated, and employed population contributes to a vibrant local economy and that is to the collective benefit of all of Newmarket’s citizens, employers and businesses.”
ACCES Newmarket is at 1091 Gorham St., Unit 302.
