Number of City of Brampton employees earning $100K or more increases again: Sunshine List

The 2021 Sunshine List was released last week showing the number of City of Brampton employees earning $100,000 or more increased by 7.2 per cent compared to the previous year.
Brampton had a total of 1,073 entries on this year’s list, up from 1,002 in 2020. Provincewide, the number of public sector workers earning six-figure incomes grew from 205,855 to 244,390 -- or by 18.7 per cent -- over the past year.
The city’s 1,073 top earners had an average salary of $120,411.45 and $906.77 in taxable benefits. That marked a decrease in average salary for those from the City of Brampton on the Sunshine List compared to 2020’s average of $122,686.94.
The number of city employees making the annual list has grown steadily during the current term of council, increasing from 820 in 2018 to its current mark.
Among City of Brampton employees on the 2021 list, 413 were employed by Brampton Fire and Emergency Services.
Thirteen city employees earned more than $200,000 last year, with former Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Harry Schlange topping the list at $288,366.60. Schlange hasn’t worked for the city since 2018.
His replacement David Barrick, who was also recently replaced by city council, was a close second with a 2021 salary of $287,417.91.

Mayor Patrick Brown was the only member of city council to make the list with an annual salary of $146,208.13 and $17,315.37 in taxable benefits.
The Sunshine List was introduced in 1996 under former premier Mike Harris and includes information on all public sector employees subject to the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act.
