A member of the Ontario Dump Truck Association (ODTA) was taken to a hospital after he was stabbed during a peaceful protest at a job site in Vaughan on March 25.

"What happened today was completely unacceptable. No one should be subject to threats or assaults while protesting," a statement from the ODTA reads.

The ODTA have been participating in job actions this past week over issues around labour and safety regulations and their stagnant wages while operating costs have increased.

According to the ODTA, members have been targeted by large construction companies over this job action with threats and intimidation.

York Regional Police were called to the scene at Huntington and Langstaff roads for a report of a stabbing.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A male suspect was arrested shortly after and charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

The investigation is ongoing.
