York Region public health is moving away from mass vaccination clinics at local community centres.

Instead, public health will operate York Region-led community vaccination clinics with the goal of having four fixed clinics per day in place along with two mobile clinics.

Moving vaccination clinics to smaller regional clinic sites is the last stage of public health’s four-phase transition plan, which also included adjustments to clinic capacity and hours of operation, staggered closing of mass vaccination sites and expanding public health’s mobile outreach.

Currently, more than 85 per cent of eligible York Region residents five years and older have received at least two COVID-19 vaccine doses. About 56 per cent of those 12 years and older have received three.

Community vaccination clinics held at the Georgina Ice Palace in Georgina; Maple Community Centre in Vaughan; Richmond Green Sports Centre in Richmond Hill; Aaniin Community Centre, Eastern York Region North Durham Health Team and Oak Valley Health clinic in Markham; and Southlake clinic at Ray Twinney Recreation Complex in Newmarket will close by the end of March.
