A pair of Vaughan Walmart stores will be the site for this year's Cram-A-Cruiser Food Drive held in support of the Food Bank of York Region.

The two stores are located at 1900 Major Mackenzie Dr. and 3600 Major Mackenzie Dr. W and you can do your part to help fill four York Regional Police cruisers with your donations of non-perishable food items from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 19.

Canada’s inflation rate has hit a 30-year high adding to the challenges for those who may have lost their job and/or who live on a fixed income. As a result, food banks across York Region have witnessed higher demand for their services.

Some food banks in our region have called on people to try and donate more food and consider volunteering their time.

In 2020, the Vaughan-based Food Bank of York Region said it distributed $8.45 million worth of food, or 3.25 million meals, marking a huge increase from the total of $3.57 million worth of food, or 1.4 million meals, it recorded the year before.

The year 2019 also saw a 58 per cent increase in individuals served over 2018.
