The Keep the Subway on Yonge Steering Committee has made arrangements with Metrolinx to host a community walk Friday, March 11 that will follow the tunnelled route of the Yonge North Subway Extension.
Metrolinx representatives will walk through the Royal Orchard neighbourhood along the proposed subway route through Thornhill beginning at 10 a.m. from the northeast corner of Yonge Street and Royal Orchard Boulevard.
The tour will proceed north on Yonge and turn east on Bay Thorn Drive passing by the Gazebo Condo building. It will then continue east on Baythorn to the pedestrian path, walk down over the bridge and Pomona Creek and continue on to Thorny Brae Drive and Banquo Road, past St Anthony Catholic School on Kirk Drive, before concluding at Shieldmark Crescent.
The committee is strongly urging residents and especially those homeowners directly impacted by the route to join the group anywhere along the walk.
Members said it is important for Metrolinx representatives to meet the community face-to-face to better appreciate the human costs to their plan.
Invitations have also been extended to members of both Markham and York Region councils.
