Get your sports gear ready; Aurora is getting a new a multi-sport artificial turf field.

The field is coming to the new Dr. G.W. Williams Secondary School, opening in September 2025 at the northeast corner of Bayview and Borealis avenues.

A regulation artificial field, which includes washrooms with exterior access, will be included.

The school will have exclusive use during school hours, while community sport organizations will be able to permit the fields through the town during evenings, weekends and non-school days, the town said in a statement March 1.

“I am pleased to announce this new partnership with (the York Region District School Board) to bring our community another artificial turf field. This new field will allow for more opportunities for community groups and athletes to enjoy games and seasonal play in the town,” Mayor Tom Mrakas said in the statement.

“This is great news for our sporting community and will encourage active and healthy living in Aurora.”

Aurora trustee Bob McRoberts said the partnership with the town will offer new opportunities to students, staff and community.

“Well-being is a key priority for our board and I feel confident that this field will greatly benefit the school and community greatly,” he said.
