The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) is undertaking maintenance work along the Stouffville Flood Control Channel (Stouffville Creek) starting Jan. 31.

The work will take place on TRCA property from upstream of Main Street to Burkholder Street. The scope of work includes cutting trees and removing debris from the watercourse.

The removal of trees and vegetation is essential for reducing flood risk in the downtown Whitchurch-Stouffville area. This is because trees and vegetation can reduce the flood flow capacity of the river. TRCA staff will commence work Jan. 31, 2022 and it is expected to take four weeks.

Crews will be cutting and removing trees that are growing in or have fallen into the channel. Trees removed will be chipped and removed from the site.
