Say goodbye to the police shed.

Demolition of the York Region Police Association headquarters at Bayview and Stonehaven avenues began Feb. 14 as part of a plan by developer Marianneville Developments Limited to build 60 single-family homes and 142 townhouses on the land.

Although the building was quite impressive, it was known as the “shed” because it replaced a far more modest police union structure that had once been on the site.

Several residents expressed disappointment with the demolition on a community Facebook page.

“What a sin,” one person said.

Another asked why the building wasn’t repurposed for community use.

“Boooo!!” one person said.

Another said developers are “disgusting” and “money-hungry.”

The police union relocated to a new two-storey office and clubhouse at 63 Eric T. Smith Way in Aurora, close to the York Regional Police headquarters on Don Hillock Drive near Wellington and Leslie streets.
