Vaughan restaurants charged for indoor dining during COVID-19 lockdown

York Region's COVID-19 enforcement task force visited 576 businesses and laid three charges in the past two weeks

Two restaurants in Vaughan have been charged in the past two weeks for having indoor dining during the last lockdown measures.

Porcello Cantina at 125 Hawkview Blvd. and That's Italian Ristorante at 2 Tall Grass Trail were each fined $880 for failing to ensure that no indoor dining was provided.

Only as of Jan. 31 is indoor dining is permitted again at restaurants in Ontario.

York Region's COVID-19 enforcement task force inspected 576 businesses between Jan. 17 and 30, resulting in three charges: two at the restaurants in Vaughan, and one by York Region Transit.

There were also 260 compliance education activities completed. Four of these were in Newmarket.

Since the pandemic began in March 2020, the COVID-19 enforcement task force has visited 78,303 businesses, laid 1,604 charges and carried out 34,492 compliance education activities throughout York Region.
