Richmond Hill Mayor David West asked residents to participate in the process after Metrolinx released the Yonge North Subway Extension Environmental Project Report Addendum for public comment, following evaluation of the potential environmental impacts of the project.
"I urge you to get informed, and get involved with the many public engagement opportunities presented through Metrolinx," West said in a statement.
"While it may feel like we are still in the early stages, now is perhaps the most critical time for our community's voices to be heard."
The public has until March 14 to comment on Metrolinx's updated environmental impact study for the Yonge subway extension released Feb. 10.
The report provides a description of local environmental conditions, potential impacts, proposed mitigation and monitoring measures, a record of consultation, and a description of future permits and approvals that may be required.
"(It) marks another significant milestone in bringing the subway to Richmond Hill," said West.
"This report is a step toward protecting our natural environment, as we realize those benefits. Even beyond that, it will help us identify opportunities to bring improvements to the local environment, as well as to introduce positive community features, such as new cycling and pedestrian connections."
"The importance of the subway extension on Richmond Hill's future cannot be overstated," said the mayor.
He said the city will continue to work closely with its partners at the province, Metrolinx and York Region, to help the subway extension become a reality.
"But it's only with your help that we will succeed in creating a strong economic, social and environmentally sound tomorrow for Richmond Hill," said West.
