The City of Toronto has announced a phased reopening plan that will see its employees back in the office and offering counter services.
Starting Tuesday, people will be able to go to civic buildings to do business and the plan is to have all city staff back to in office work by March 21.
“Brighter days are ahead,” Mayor John Tory said at a press conference on Wednesday. “Make no mistake we are making it through this pandemic.”
“We are moving ahead with safely opening up City Hall and the civic centres because we have made great progress helping people get vaccinated to confront COVID-19 and the Omicron surge,” he said. “Opening City buildings to the community and reopening offices, in a safe and responsible manner, is another example of the work underway to return to a more active and thriving city.”
Visitors to City buildings will be welcomed by greeters to assist them.
Some services will be first come, first served basis and some will require an appointment.
A full list of services and hours can be found on the COVID-19: Changes to City Services webpage at www.toronto.ca/home/covid-19/covid-19-latest-city-of-toronto-news/affected-city-services/.
The City also announced that registration for spring recreation programs open on March 5 and March 7 for programs starting the week of April 4.
There are over 8,400 courses with 68,000 spaces for arts, fitness and wellness, general interest, sports and swimming.
There are also new programs including outdoor Pilates, Tai Chi, yoga and soccer.
Registration for spring recreation programs starts at 7 a.m. on March 5 for Etobicoke York, York South-Weston and Scarborough, on March 7 for North York and Toronto and East York, and on March 7 for Virtual programs city-wide
People can visit the city’s recreation webpage for more information.
“As we continue with reopening, we are proud to be able to offer spring recreation programming for residents across Toronto,” Tory said. “Thank you to all our City staff working to provide safe and affordable recreation opportunities for residents of all ages.”
“I encourage families to check out the programs available this spring and plan to sign up next month when registration opens up,” he said.
