Georgina is looking to redesign the public taps system, which may include a safer location with dedicated parking and possibly multiple tap fixtures at varying heights.

But that depends on how the public water taps are used.

The town wants to hear from residents through a new survey on how they currently use or have used the public water taps and what enhancements the town should install.

The online survey is now open and closes Feb. 22. Hard copies of the survey can be found at all three Georgina Public Library branches. Residents can also provide input by calling Service Georgina at 905-476-4301.

Preliminary survey results will be presented to council in the coming weeks with final recommendations coming later in the spring.

Last fall, the town closed three of its four public water taps citing water contamination and commercial use concerns. The remaining free public tap is located at Black River and Park roads and residents require a key to gain access to the tap.

Keys can be picked up Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Environment Services Yard, 26817 Civic Centre Rd. A $20 deposit fee is required for each key and will be returned once the key is returned.

Keys do not have to be returned after each use. Frequent public tap users can keep the key until a long-term solution is in place.

Larger volumes of water can be purchased at the Bulk Water Station located at the town’s Environmental Services Yard.
