Hospice Vaughan Residence Working Committee is among 15 others who were recognized by the government of Ontario for their “exceptional contributions” in volunteerism when they received the 2021 June Callwood Award.
In a Feb. 3 statement, Ontario said this year’s award recipients included volunteers who helped people with developmental disabilities, support those requiring hospice care or even mentor leaders of the future.
“The past year has been challenging for us all and it’s impressive to see how volunteers and organizations stepped up to support their neighbours and communities,” said Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism Parm Gill.
Hospice Vaughan said it’s proud after receiving the award. It also added that more 50,000 hours has been dedicated to opening the first hospice palliative health-care facility in Vaughan.
In summer last year, Hospice Vaughan announced a new milestone after opening a 10-bed hospice residence to provide holistic care to individuals nearing the end of their lives in a comfortable and homelike setting.
Ontarians are also encouraged to nominate outstanding volunteers in their local community for 2022. The deadline for 2022 June Callwood Award nominations is Feb. 18.
