Whitchurch-Stouffville recreational facilities are set to open Monday, Jan. 31. Residents can then expect to once again enjoy the town’s recreational facilities to a maximum of 50 per cent capacity.

The Leisure Centre will be open Jan. 31 with indoor group fitness classes, such as Cyclefit and Aquafit, available in addition to public swimming, the fitness training room and gymnasium drop-in programs. COVID-19 screening is required for all programs. All registered programs scheduled for the current season will resume beginning the week of Jan. 31, running through to Sunday, March 13. Patrons that were already registered will maintain their spot and credits will be applied for any missed classes or shortened schedules.

To assist local hockey associations, which missed weeks of their season, the town is temporarily suspending indoor public skate and free skate times. Residents can continue to take advantage of the eight outdoor rinks for public skating. Family stick and puck and shinny hockey will still be available indoors.

Cultural and community centres, including the Whitchurch-Stouffville Museum and Community Centre, the Lebovic Centre for the Performing Arts - 19 on the Park, and Latcham Hall, are also reopening on Jan. 31.

“We are all eager and excited to go back to our regular routines and being able to support local businesses,” said Whitchurch-Stouffville Mayor Iain Lovatt. “Thank you to our residents, businesses and the community for their efforts in slowing the spread of COVID-19 by doing their part in getting vaccinated and following all health regulations as outlined by the province.”

The Latcham Art Centre will be reopening its doors on Tuesday, Feb. 1. Community members can once again attend on-site programs and visit the gallery’s current exhibition, Inward Identities by local artist Vicky Talwar. The gallery is open Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information about programs and exhibits, visit latchamgallery.ca.
