To lure in more visitors to Vaughan’s emerging downtown core also known as the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, a music festival that saw its first soft launch last year is going to be held -- officially -- this year.

This year, the Vaughan International Music Festival will be held on the weekend of June 10 to 12, after a resolution by Ward 4 Coun. Sandra Racco was passed by council Jan. 18.

Racco’s resolution is also set to hold this annual and free community event for the next three years, through to 2024. The resolution is expected to be ratified Tuesday, Jan. 25.

Last year, the VIMF saw its first soft launch. The Toronto Chinese Orchestra made up of 25 musicians and a conductor along with a host of other musicians performed.

The event won a 2021 Ontario Culture Days Spotlight Award.
