The Town of Aurora has received a $236,400 investment from the Ontario government to repair the Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex.

The funding has been made through the province's Community Building Fund, which is aimed at supporting 186 municipalities, Indigenous communities and non-profit tourism, culture, sport and recreation organizations experiencing significant pressures due to COVID-19.

"Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, our government has supported those struggling the most," said Lisa MacLeod, minister of heritage, sport, tourism and culture industries.

"These capital grants will help municipalities, Indigenous communities and non-profit organizations make repairs or upgrades needed to their sport and recreation facilities to adapt to the pressures of the pandemic so they can continue to deliver programming critical to the economic and social well-being of communities across the province once their doors reopen," said MacLeod.

The investment given to Aurora will help with repairs needed to be done to the infrastructure of the Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex, including retrofits and rehabilitations to meet COVID-19 public health requirements.

"The $236,400 allocated to the Town of Aurora will help update our facilities so we can all continue to enjoy recreational activities," said Michael Parsa, MPP for Aurora--Oak Ridges--Richmond Hill. "We need to ensure these facilities are equipped to provide quality COVID-19 safeguards when we return."

"This grant will support required repairs to the Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex pools and will go a long way to help ensure our current infrastructure is safe, reliable and updated," said Aurora Mayor Tom Mrakas. "It will allow the town to continue to offer our residents programs, services and events that are essential to their well-being, especially as we go through the waves of this pandemic."

The province's Community Building Fund is investing $105 million to support the eligible recipients impacted by COVID-19.
